Aug 12 - St Johns: Day 3
Today I had to hang around where I had a good signal because I had a zoom call for Patty’s ISP. Matthew did laundry while I was in my meeting. After our chores were done we headed down to St John’s waterfront, seeing some of the “jellybean houses” along the way.
An enormous quilted whale
A painting of the jelly bean houses
Stairs in the store with iconic Newfounland terms
Cruise ships dwarf the area
Newfoundland and Labrador Supreme Court
There is art everywhere (and, full disclosure, also many impaired and begging individuals)
We watched the cruise ship maneuver to turn itself around - it was almost as long as the harbor is wide and so it almost spun in place
And then had to thread the needle through the narrow inlet - it was impressive to watch
Drove to the jelly bean row houses, named for their colorful paint jobs
Then strolled the grounds of the Government House, formerly home to the Governor until Confederation when it became the official residence of the Lieutenant Gouverneur, and still is
Meandered through the gardens
Before picking up some local beers to try and heading back to our trailhead for the night
