Ferryland Lighthouse, St Mary’s Ecological Reserve and Cape Race Lighthouse

 Aug 14, 2024

We survived the windy night and hiked up to the Ferryland Lighthouse. That’s our van down the road where we spent the night.

Then drove into the town where we saw this cute trash bin

An homage to “musical legend Ron Hynes”

Stopped in at the Colony of Avalon Museum but decided to just cruise the gift shop
Interesting

Drove to Mistaken Point and saw the fossil casts - we didn’t know you had to make reservations to actually go out to the where this rich important fossil grounds were, and they were booked solid for days, so we contented ourselves with just seeing the videos about them

Coming down this hill we saw what looked like little boats in the lake
Sure enough
Love that this craftsperson shares their art with the world

Made it out to the Cape Race Lighthouse
More cool geometric rocks

A random woman from Massachusetts that we were chatting with insisted on taking our picture

There was a new house next to this huge generator and accompanying wire structures. Other than that someone from the University bought the place and installed all this, no one knows what it is or its purpose

Settled at a trailhead that we intend to hike tomorrow and enjoyed another local brew.
