Aug 15 - Cataract Provincial Park and Cape St Mary's
Turns out there doesn't seem to be a falls here so we drove for our first hike to Cataract Provincial Park.
Where we were not disappointed. This cascade was not accessible but the trail on the other side of the road provided other views. And the promise of more stairs
Next on to Cape St Mary's Ecological Reserve. Cooked lunch before hiking to bird rock and this guy was hoping we'd serve him also.
The hike to bird rock, seen, heard, and smelled long before you reach it.
Thousands of gannets! These are the largest North Atlantic sea bird with wing spans up to 6 1/2 feet. Most of the chicks were alll ready to fly but a few were still fuzzy.
We saw a few kittiwakes flying but everything else had already roosted, fledged, and flown south.
Unsuccessfully tried to catch a photo of the 4 eagles but they sure got the gannets flying. Several chased them off.
While this is the Seven Island Lookout in Placentia we only counted 6
Sulphur piles
We forgot to put the bungee around the paper towels before we bounced down the curvy dirt road
But came to a lovely spot for the night
