Rose Blanche, Newfoundland

 July 26, 2024

Drove down the peninsula towards Rose Blanche, our destination for this cloudy morning.

When we arrived at Rose Blanche lighthouse the woman who sold us our tickets said it looked like rain and that we best dress for it. We assured her we were fine in our raincoats and waterproof shoes and began our hike by watching a brief film about the restoration of the lighthouse. It began to rain as the video finished. But it wasn't bad and we were dressed for it.

It began to pour

Really?

Rose Blanche lighthouse built 1871-1873 with stone quarried from the rocks below. We were soaked through by the time we reached it.

Highlighting is mine

The rain was heavy and it got foggier

They call Newfoundland (NL) The Rock, and we can see why. It is all so beautiful.

Drying everything we wore - and waterproof shoes only work if the rain doesn't run down your socks
This had been a mere trickle the day before
The ferry on another run. It dwarfs Port aux Basques
Stopped at the library for wifi and encountered these lovely signs.

Thought we'd camp for the night beside the Cape Anguille Lighthouse
But it was a private Inn so we backtracked to the Codroy Valley Provincial Park for the night.
