Humber Arm

July 29, 2024

Went up to the Captain James Cook overlook to view the city of Corner Brook

Captain Cook was an amazing man. We have now been to both his Newfoundland and Alaskan exploration sites.

Wave etched flagstones
Have to say, I’m with them
Drove down the SW side of Humber Arm
What a lovely yard

Frenchman’s Cove

Lark Harbour

a rock with teeth?

Hiked Bottle Cove

It was so windy I was anxious getting to close to the cliffs to look down

Then we went down the NE arm

Cox Cove - Love the colors

Cox Cove waterfall - we were considering staying the night here but it was a busy place so we went to a parking lot at Marble mountain instead.

Ramea

 July 29, 2024

Morning hike around the island - names of inhabitants were all along this boardwalk

I love that this is a thing in the Atlantic Provinces - Adirondack chairs set out to rest and view the sights. Our camp last night and the van can be seen in the distance

The firs are very stunted but are heavily laden with cones to try to reproduce
A pleasant surprise
Remnants of a sled
Colors

Someone built an inukshuk
More damn stairs!
Northwest Head Light Station

Bogs

And then suddenly a pine forest on the lee side of the island

This man puts up all these flags for the following weekend’s music festival

My dorky husband
The prominent school building at the top of this gravel road is the only thing there - the sign warning that it was a school zone cracked us up
Explored the Ramea museum, which was a mishmash of small town life
This is universal. Old men gathered daily to share companionship and comment on the comings and goings of the community

Headed back to Burgeo

Clearer skies today to see the coast that we will not be going to since it requires a boat to explore it. The ferry only runs a few days to these outposts and none take vehicles

I spotted another basking shark, although this one wasn’t as closes

Left Burgeo and headed inland, through a no mans land. Found a pullout alongside the road to spend the night.
