Hiking Pictured Rocks

 August 10 - 14

Our boondocking site was lovely and isolated. We spent our first day there just hanging out reading.

Pasties (pronounced pass-tees) were a necessary item since they were much beloved by Matthew's dad.

My veggie one had a winky face - probably knowing I wasn't going to be impressed
However, Matthew liked his a lot

We did a beautiful hike to Miner's Falls

Then over to Miner's Castle Rock

Park Rangers had an exhibit about proper kayaks for Lake Superior - recreation ones without 2 closed bulkheads and less than 16 feet in length are NOT ok here. We also got to play Environmental Jeopardy - we both won.

And then we hiked to the Au Sable Lighthouse

Harbingers of what is to come, looking like decorative Chinese lanterns.

The next day was another leisurely day of reading and hanging out as we learn to transition from "being on vacation" to "living on the road". On Sunday we drove back into Munising, stopping at falls along the way.

Alger Falls
A photographer's arrangement

On to the Munising PRNL Visitors Center and Munising Falls

Captivated by the colors again

And then on to Sand Point Beach
Old Coast Guard boathouse
And dock ruins

Lower tree growing at a seemingly impossible angle

It was shallow so far out!

It was windy
Cool color variation

Back to our boondocking site, although we had distant neighbors this time. The next day we took a hike in the woods around our campsite.

Fall is around the corner

The blueberries were mostly picked over by the bears, but we got a few
