Aug 27 - 28 Girdwood and Seward
Let Cam experience lotdocking as we camped out in the parking lot of Cabelas in Anchorage yet again. In the morning we headed to Girdwood.
Hiked Abe's Trail in Girdwood - this part of Alaska is a rainforest and this hike proved it. Oh, and we love mushrooms
It actually got quite warm this day
Drove back to Bird Point to see the tidal bore - and got to see this
Of course had to stop back at Girdwood Brewery
Then drove to the riverbed moraine of Exit Glacier for the night
Woken at 3:30 by someone shooting off fireworks - that was a surprise. Then got up early to drive into Seward to Miller's Landing and a kayak tour.
Our guide, Emily
Eagle on the shore
Sea otter - we also saw seals and sea lions, but no whales sadly
After a five mile paddle we went ashore at Cain's Head for a 4 mile RT hike to Ft McGilvray
Built to defend the port during WWII it was extremely difficult and expensive to build, and then was abandoned months after it was finished
Took the water taxi back to Seward
More cool artwork in the shingles
Beautiful day driving back to Anchorage
Spent the night in the Anchorage UU Fellowship's parking lot (thank you Rev Lise Addams Sherry) which was near the airport, since Cam leaves at the crack of dawn tomorrow. It's been a wonderful visit!
