May 12 - 19
We rose early to drive to Springfield to attend the end-of-year project displays of the students at the school that our sister-in-law, Ruxi, worked at. We enjoyed the creative 60's themed projects. We wandered the downtown while waiting to have lunch with Nate and Rux. Springfield is the home of The Simpsons and embraces that designation. These were at an art gallery that we went through.
And no trip to the Eugene area is complete without a stop at Sweet Life Patisserie.
Wednesday we met up with our supervisor Andrew and his wife Tina to paddle Beaver Creek at Brian Booth State Park.

Back at work, we continued to take in the sights, learn about the local fauna, flora, and history.
Unfortunately, a shift at the tidepools took a bad turn when a visitor fell climbing to the stairs. His wife jumped down to help him and ended up probably breaking her ankle. I called for an ambulance and the EMTs climbed down the 100 or so steps with their equipment. Fortunately, after initially having to bring her up to a staging area by hand, they were able to put the patient into a chair with tank-like tracks that eased its way up the stairs.
Calm returned to the beach and the the seals poked their heads up to see what what going on.
As I was closing the beach and retrieving signs I found several velella velellas, or blue sail jellies - so cool!
